About the course
Aim
The course gives basic knowledge in the analysis and design of control systems, sensors and basic signal processing. This means that students will be expected to be able to do the following after completing this course:
- Analyze models of dynamical systems in the form of differential equations, state-space models and transfer functions.
- Analyze and design control systems using PID control and state-space methods.
- Describe basic properties of common sensors in mechatronics, and analyze simple signal processing algorithms.
- Model, design and verify a control system for a laboratory process.
Content
- Measurement components, accelerometers, gyros, encoders.
- Filtering of measurement signals, sampling, alias effect, difference equations
- Dynamical systems, differential equations, transfer functions, state-space models
- Differential equations, transfer functions, poles and zeros
- Stability, specifications, relationships between dynamical properties and pole location
- Controllability and observability
- Frequency response, Bode plots
- The feedback principle, block diagram
- PID-control, PID-tuning, state-space feedback through pole placement, implementation of controllers.
- The importance of control technology for effective management of environmental impact as well as energy and resource use in different types of technical systems
