About the course
Aim
After the course the student shall be able to:
- Explain differences and characteristics of various color systems and color spaces, as well as identify and justify optimal choices for different applications, and implement the key models (mathematical and physical) for color prediction.
- Perform calibration and characterization of image reproduction units to ensure repeatable and controlled color reproduction.
- Describe and implement mathematical and physical models for image reproduction, color prediction, and color separation.
- Identify and explain the various attributes affecting perceived image quality, and evaluate the image quality of reproduced images by applying models, including those incorporating features of our visual perception, to calculate objective quality metrics.
Content
- Image Reproduction: Technical prerequisites, constraints, and possibilities for various techniques in modern image reproduction, for both electronic and conventional media. Overview of the current research landscape, including examples such as multi-channel displays, multi-channel printing, and spectral image reproduction.
- Image Quality: Attributes influencing the perceived image quality of different reproduction methods. Models, based on human vision, to calculate objective quality metrics.
- Color Management: Color measurement, calibration, and characterization of different image reproduction units. Color spaces and color systems. Physical and mathematical models for color prediction and color separation.
