About the course

Aim

After completing the course, students should be able to:

  • describe and implement signal- and image processing techniques and methods in digital image acquisition of color images
  • describe and implement multimodal imaging methods, such as high dynamic range images.
  • apply the theory by implementing and evaluating relevant methods in a research project.

Content

Conventional camera technology: optics and sensors. Near-sensor signal processing like denoising and demosaicing. Color signal processing, white point compensation, color constancy and color conversion. Color Filter Array (CFA) design. Multispectral and multi-channel imaging. Calibration and characterization of cameras and image acquisition systems. Auto focus and focus measures. Multi-image techniques: exposure bracketing, high dynamic range images. Image quality and objective quality measures for digital images.
