About the course
Aim
The aim of the course is to give the students a theoretical and practical basis for computerized processing and analysis of digital images. After the course the student shall be able to:
- describe the principles of image acquisition, as well as explain and interpret basic operations such as tone value transformations and histogram processing.
- construct and use filters in both the spatial and frequency domains, as well as explain the connection between a digital image and its Fourier spectrum.
- describe and implement methods for image segmentation and image restoration, as well as explain and use morphological operations.
- describe different methods for representation of regions and contours in images, as well as the principles of pattern recognition.
Content
Image acquisition and properties of sensors and cameras. Tone value transformations and histogram processing. Filtering in the spatial domain. The Fourier transform and filtering in the frequency domain. Image restoration and reconstruction. Morphological operations. Segmentation. Representation of regions and features in images. Pattern recognition.
