About the course
Aim
After completing this course students should be able to:
- describe the function and explain the characteristics of analog systems in general and components commonly encountered in the course.
- analyze and do computations on various circuits based on components commonly encountered in the course.
- simulate various circuits that are part of the course using diodes and operational amplifiers.
- verify calculations and simulations of various circuits that are part of the course using diodes and operational amplifiers with practical circuits and measurements.
- use computer systems for data acquisition
Content
- System level properties of analog circuits. Gain, input impedance, output impedance and bandwidth.
- Operational amplifiers and the characteristics of operational amplifiers. Amplifier built with operational amplifiers. Differential amplifiers, common mode, differential mode, CMRR.
- RC-filters and bode plots. Frequency response of amplifiers.
- The principle of feedback. Stability problems in feedback amplifiers.
- Basic semiconductor theory with focus on the diode and diode circuits (rectification, clipping circuits, zener diode, light emitting diode)
- Use of circuit simulation software (Spice) and measurements on circuits with diodes and operational amplifiers.
- The course also includes data acquisition, instrument control using the LabVIEW software, and sensor technology with measurement amplifiers.
