About the course
Aim
After the course, the student should be able to:
- have an in-depth methodological knowledge and approach to design work, with a focus on performance, feasibility and sustainability.
- be able to set goals and means for a construction process, from early planning work to later phases of detailed design.
- have the ability to reformulate given problems in an engineering manner.
- be able to produce sufficient and necessary documentation for design decisions in different product development phases, and be able to formulate motives and arguments for different design decisions.
- demonstrate a clear progression in their ability to choose and adapt the design methodology for a given task.
- strengthened the ability to look at one's own design work from a critical and ethical perspective, and to be able to give and receive feedback on both results and process.
- plan, implement and follow up a product development project in groups.
Content
The course aims to develop the student's knowledge of and ability to implement and control a product development process from an industrial perspective. Particular emphasis is placed on the student understanding and using methods and tools that support the work during a product development project and having the ability to apply and integrate different perspectives on product development.
The course aims to strengthen and deepen practical knowledge and understanding of the work process in mechanical engineering design, from initial need identification of future products to a well-thought-out and detailed solution that can be verified.
- In-depth studies – read up on the central design methodology area that is shared with the rest of the project group and which you are responsible for during the development process of the project. Also develops the ability to take responsibility for one's own learning in the field and a way of working to absorb new knowledge.
- Lectures/seminars – provide knowledge in central areas but also alternate it with seminars where the application and impact of topics on construction work can be discussed and problematized.
- Design labs – smaller, shorter assignments intended to train the students' ability to solve mechanical engineering problems.
- Project assignment – given the opportunity to apply theory and methodology to a more extensive project assignment.
