About the course
Aim
To be able to reason about, understand and thereby apply thermodynamic concepts and connections, to be able to treat thermodynamic issues and solve related problems, as well as evaluate the reasonableness of obtained thermodynamic results.
Examined through the exam (TEN1) and laboratory reports (LAB1).
To be able to perform thermodynamic experiments and to be able to analyze the results obtained.
Examined through compulsory attendance and laboratory reports (LAB1).
Content
The idea of a thermodynamic state and the state equations. Ideal and real gases and critical phenomena. The first law of thermodynamics, heat, work and thermochemistry. The second law, entropy and spontaneous reactions. Gibbs free energy and equilibria. Phase diagrams for one and two component systems and their dependence on pressure and temperature. Chemical equilibria and their dependence on the applied conditions.
