About the course
Aim
The course provides fundamental knowledge in the areas mentioned below. After studies well learned the student will be able to:
- describe the fundamentals and solve problems within the area of chemical equilibrium, especially acid-base equilibrias.
- describe the fundamentals and solve problems in organic chemistry
- describe the fundamental biochemical principles
- use and apply basic laboratory techniques, analyze data and write a laboratory report.
Content
- Chemical equilibrium
- Organic chemistry: Structural formulas, functional groups and their properties, nomenclature, and some reaction mechanisms.
- Biochemistry: Important biomolecules; proteins, nucleic acids, lipids and carbohydrates. Metabolism and bioenergetics.
- Laboratory work connected to the course content, safety regulations and sustainable chemical handling.
