About the course
Aim
The course gives knowledge in the analysis and design of multivariable and nonlinear control systems, as well as in using modern software tools within these areas. This means that students will be expected to be able to do the following after completing this course:
- Analyze the properties of multivariate linear control systems, model disturbances, and use a Kalman filter.
- Understand control design for linear systems, have knowledge of the structure of controllers and closed-loop systems, design regulators using LQ optimization and H2/Hinf loopshaping methods, and understand the fundamental limitations in control design.
- For nonlinear control systems, perform stability and phase plane analysis, detect oscillations, and design regulators based on approximate and exact linearization.
Content
Mathematical description of linear multivariable systems in continuous time.Controllability and observability. Stability. Description of disturbances. Synthesis of regulators. Sensitivity and robustness. Performance limitations.Linear quadratic theory. Observers. The separation principleLTR-methodology. Robust loop-shaping. Nonlinear systems: The effect of nonlinearities, phase planes, stability. Lyapunov theory, the circle criterion, describing function. Exact linearization.
