About the course

Aim

The course gives students practical knowledge of signal integrity and high frequency measurements as well as knowledge of systematic PCB design. After the end of the course, the students are expected to:

  • Explain the concept of time domain reflectometry and its application in impedance measurement and signal integrity
  • Get knowledge of time domain versus frequency domain measurement
  • Understand how to work with different measuring instruments like spectrum analyzer, vector network analyzer, and time domain reflectometer
  • Perform PCB design using professional CAD tools
  • Evaluate and measure the parameters of high-speed integrated circuits

Content

The course will focus on these topics:

  • Transmission lines and matching networks
  • Concept of scattering parameters
  • Concept of time domain reflectometry and its application in signal integrity
  • Frequency domain measuring instruments for test and validation of high frequency devices
  • Systematic PCB design
  • Evaluation and measurement based on the implemented IC and PCB
