About the course
Aim
This course provides an introduction to materials science with a focus on applications in engineering design. In this course, you will gain a thorough understanding of the materials used in design and construction, as well as the relationships between structures and material properties.
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- Explain basic concepts such as atomic structure, interatomic bonds, and crystal structure.
- Analyze mechanical and thermal properties as well as phase transformations.
- Apply physical, chemical, and mathematical principles to describe materials and material interactions.
- Design materials for reliability, manufacturability, and functionality.
