About the course
Aim
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- explain and analyse the role of logistics in sustainable development.
- map a product or service's resource use and climate impact in its value chain and propose measures to reduce this impact in a sustainable way.
- analyse how changes in the role and conditions of labor and energy use affect logistics systems, supply chains and their sustainability.
- show understanding of how situationally adapted logistics decisions and collaborations can affect both the environment and social responsibility.
- use mathematical models and calculation tools for sustainability analyses of logistics-related decisions.
Content
The course creates an understanding of the current situation by describing facts, trends and statistics for the logistics area and its development based on a historical retrospective, and shows how the changing world affects the logistics system and its sustainability. The environmental impact of supply chains and the logistics system is reviewed. Opportunities and difficulties in calculating an organization's economic, environmental and social sustainability are discussed. Various methods for changing the environmental impact of transport are reviewed, both with regard to existing transport needs and by changing transport needs with the help of logistics solutions.
