About the course
Aim
After completing the course, the student will be able to
- Independently formulate and justify a CFD modeling strategy for complex flow and heat transfer problems based on engineering objectives and constraints.
- Select, configure, and motivate physical models, numerical methods, and meshing strategies for realistic industrial CFD problems.
- Plan, schedule, and manage CFD projects including risk assessment and execution strategy.
- Design and apply verification and validation procedures with quantitative assessment of errors and uncertainties.
- Execute CFD simulation campaigns using automated, reproducible workflows and efficient use of HPC resources.
- Post-process, analyze, and communicate CFD results using appropriate scientific methods, with professional documentation supporting reproducibility.
Content
The course covers applied Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for complex flow and heat transfer problems with an emphasis on practical engineering applications. The course focuses on end-to-end CFD workflows, including formulation of modeling strategies, selection of physical models and numerical methods, meshing strategies, verification and validation, error and uncertainty assessment, automation of simulation workflows, and efficient execution of large-scale CFD simulations on HPC resources. The course further addresses advanced scientific post-processing techniques and professional communication of CFD results, as well as planning and management of CFD projects including risk assessment and execution strategy.
