About the course
Aim
After completion of the course, the student should be able to:
Knowledge and Understanding
- Describe, apply and discuss the basic heat transfer mechanisms and energy processes in different realistic engineering problems
- Describe, apply and discuss different simulation approaches for numerical analysis of realistic heat transfer and energy problems, and assess the models output inaccuracies using appropriate methods
Skills and Ability
- Implement and evaluate robust simulation methods for studying specific heat transfer and energy engineering/research questions
- Communicate, scientifically, the scope, method and findings of projects within heat transfer and energy engineering disciplines
Values and Attitudes
- Understand and use the sustainable development goals (Agenda 2030 SDGs) and the role of the subject area, heat transfer, to achieve various SDGs.
Content
Introduction to modelling and simulation including implementation of geometry, boundary- and initial conditions. Basic relations for heat transport in fluids and solids as well across material boundaries. Modelling, simulation and analysis of heat and energy processes and their relation to thermodynamics. Analysis of one- and multidimensional heat transfer and thermodynamic applications, steady state as well as transient.
