About the course
Aim
- Explain and discuss the key gas turbine engine components (compressor, combustor and turbines), the different types of each component and their principal operation, and their characteristics under different applications and operations.
- To analyze and discuss the functionality and performance of the key gas turbine engine components using analytical and theoretical approaches.
- Explain/Discuss the role of gas turbine engines in the development of a sustainable society in relation to the United Nations Agenda 2030, highlighting their contributions to energy generation and propulsion in contrast with other sources with reduced environmental footprint.
- To use, explain and discuss the fundamental principles of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and aerodynamics for analytical analysis of the operation of gas turbine engines for power generation and aircraft propulsion.
Content
The course includes fundamentals of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and aerodynamics for gas turbine engines (stationary and for propulsion systems), both from an analytical and theoretical perspective. Furthermore, the functionality of different components such as compressors, combustors, and turbines, common in these types of machines, will be introduced. The role of gas turbine engines in the development of a sustainable society is discussed.
