About the course
Aim
The aim of the course is to give the student a solid basis in classical continuum mechanics. A thorough description of continuum kinematics and the fundamental laws of thermomechanics will be given based on tensor theory. As applications of the theory, basic classical thermodynamics, statics, dynamics, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer will be revisited. Furthermore, the field of large deformation analysis of continuous media (fluids and solids) will be studied. Material mechanics as well as variational principles of mechanics will be shortly introduced as a basis for further studies.
