About the course
Aim
1. Understanding and Application of the Conceptual Aircraft Design Process:
- Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to describe and apply a complete aircraft conceptual design process from requirement definition to final design, including all intermediate milestones.
2. Report Writing and Documentation:
- The student should be able to write a technical report that meets academic standards, including correct formatting, structure, and language use.
3. Analysis, Evaluation, and Improvement of the Design:
- The student should be able to analyse and evaluate design decisions and processes, including justifying chosen parameters, discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the design, and conducting a critical review of the design to propose improvements based on detailed analyses and comparisons with, for example, competing aircraft.
Content
The course provides a comprehensive overview of how the conceptual design of jet-powered civil aircraft is performed. The students will perform the conceptual design of an aircraft and thereby apply previously acquired knowledge to a real project. The main content of the course covers the following topics:
- The design process
- Aircraft configurations, conventional as well as unconventional
- Safety and safety requirements
- How to do fuselage-, wing- and stabilizer layouts
- Weight and balance
- Powerplant and installation
- Landing gear design and installation
- Introducing the design program, how it is built up and functions
- Examiner
- Ludvig Knöös Franzén
- Scheduled hours
- 48 h
- Main field of study
- Flygteknik, Maskinteknik
