About the course
Aim
The course aims to provide fundamental knowledge in molecular biology with a focus on laboratory techniques such as DNA sequencing, PCR, cloning, and site-specific mutagenesis. After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:
- explain the role of various enzymes and their use for molecular biological purposes.
- explain principles behind basic laboratory techniques such as DNA sequencing, PCR, cloning, and site-specific mutagenesis.
- plan and conduct a major laboratory project in groups with individual roles.
- evaluate experimental measurements by critically reviewing scientific literature and available experimental data.
Content
DNA purification and manipulation, Cloning of foreign genes in E. coli, Gene expression control, Differences between eukaryotic and prokaryotic genes. Protein engineering involving both site-specific and random mutagenesis, mutation analysis, DNA sequencing, and PCR techniques.
The majority of the course is laboratory-based, offering insights into modern experimental techniques in molecular biology
