After completing the course, students should be able to:

  • use computer systems typical of production environments for laboratory activities
  • explain basic concepts related to programming and computational thinking
  • independently create and maintain small programs
  • apply computational thinking to solve programming-related problems in industrial engineering and management
  • independently further develop their programming skills for applications in different domains

Content

  • Introduction to Linux - organization and usage
  • General programming principles - imperative and declarative programming, execution and evaluation, statements and expressions, compilation and interpretation, variables and data types, program flow and state, iteration and recursion, error handling and debugging, abstraction, documentation, complexity, input/output
  • The Python programming language - syntax, semantics and idioms
  • Computational thinking - abstraction, generalization, pattern matching and algorithms
  • Using data resources from the web
  • Processing and visualizing complex data - nesting and tables
