About the course
Aim
The course intends to provide a possibility for the student to develop an understanding of the formation of medical images using x-rays, magnetic resonance (MR), and ultrasound. After passing the course, the student should be able to:
- apply basic physical principles to describe how medical images are generated
- propose solutions to problems within medical image formation
- relate image quality and image contrast to system parameters
- propose a set of data acquisition parameters to address a clinical challenge
Content
Physics of x-ray generation and x-ray tissue interactions, hardware elements and experimental parameters employed in x-ray based medical imaging, computerized tomography, essential physics of magnetic resonance (MR), pulse sequences, different MR contrasts and choice of acquisition parameters, physics of ultrasound wave generation and propagation, formation of ultrasound images, image quality and artifact identification.
