Who takes the course?
About the course
Aim
The course aims to provide an understanding of the use of mathematics, the role and limitations of modeling in science, technology and computer science. Through a number of different learning elements in the course, an increased understanding is created of the significance of mathematics for other subject areas and also of the role that mathematics plays in sustainable development.
After completing the course, the student must
- have knowledge of how mathematics can be used for modeling in science, technology and computer science in general,
- have a good understanding of a limited number of concrete applications of mathematics in science, technology and computer science,
- have an understanding of the role of mathematics in sustainable development,
- have the ability to apply mathematics in problem solving, in collaboration with other course participants,
- be able to document, report and communicate achieved results in an engineeringly adequate manner together with other course participants.
Content
Exact course content can vary from year to year. The following parts will be highlighted through tasks that the course participants work on in groups:
- The role of mathematics for modeling in science, technology and computer science,
- Mathematics as a tool for problem solving,
- The importance of mathematics in achieving sustainable development.
