About the course
Aim
After the course the student is expected to:
- discuss properties of materials and how they are related to the synthesis method
- describe and compare techniques for deposition of thin films
- describe and compare techniques for synthesis of nanostructured powder materials
- explain how precursor molecules for different synthesis techniques should be designed for an efficient and sustainable materials synthesis
Content
The course describes chemically based materials synthesis at an advanced level from a molecular centred perspective: how is the molecular structure to the reactivity and properties of the molecule in chemical materials synthesis and how can the properties of the molecule be modified for a better materials synthesis. The course aims to give the student deeper knowledge in chemical methods for synthesis of materials with a focus on thin films, but also powder materials will be discussed. Materials synthesis will also be discussed from a green chemistry perspective with emphasis on atom economy, lower synthesis temperature and less harmful solvents for materials synthesis.
