About the course
Aim
Project work of a practical nature is carried out within analytical chemistry or organic chemistry. The aim of the course is that the students should learn how a project is planned, implemented and followed up. This includes the overall planning of project activities as well as more detailed planning and implementation of laboratory work. The course should further strengthen the students' ability to independently apply knowledge in analytical chemistry and organic chemistry acquired during previous courses. The students must deliver a written report and an oral presentation, both in English.
After completing the course, students should be able to:
- Carry out project planning and use this to control and follow up a project
- Analyze and structure problems
- Take initiative and find creative solutions
- Practically apply knowledge in analytical chemistry and organic chemistry acquired during previous courses
- Search for and acquire additional knowledge
- Evaluate experimental results through critical review of scientific literature and available experimental data
- Report results orally and in writing in English
Content
The students are divided into project groups of ideally 4-6 students. The groups carry out project work within the area of analytical chemistry or organic chemistry. The projects can be research-oriented, more application-oriented or investigative in nature. The projects can also in some cases consist of a literature study. Establishment of requirement specification and project plan is made in the first part of the work. Planning and performance of experiments as well as evaluation of data and documentation of the project results is conducted in the second project part. The projects must be of such a nature that knowledge gained within the framework of completed courses in analytical chemistry and organic chemistry is used.
