        About the course

        Aim

The course aims at giving an overview of the biology of animal behaviour, with particular emphasis on the underlying mechanisms and evolution of behaviour. After the course, the students will also be well acquainted with scientific methods in animal behaviour research.

After the course the students will be able to:

        • Explain mechanisms and the function of animal behaviour
        • Plan, design, conduct, and present an ethological experiment

        Content

Ethological concepts and methods, including the genetical background of behaviour patterns, function of behaviour, cognition from a behavioural ecology perspective, evolutionary origin of behaviour, and examples of models used in behavioural ecology research.
