About the course
Aim
After the course you should have basic knowledge of, and be able to handle geographic information systems (GIS) in biology. The course focuses on collecting, compiling, analyzing and presenting geographically bounded data in an ecological context. After the course you should be able to:
- collect (e.g. with a GPS or screen digitalization) geographical data and transform to GIS-data
- manage data in a GIS-software, e.g. edit, manage vector and raster data, manage coordinate systems
- analyze spatial vector and raster data
- present data and analysis with information rich maps
Content
This course focus on the practical side of GIS. The theoretical content mostly involve methods for capturing data, handling coordinate systems, performing analysis and creating information-rich maps. But for most of the time students work pratically with the software.
