About the course
Aim
On completion of the course, the student should be able to: - demonstrate skills in creative work and expressive abilities using surface and structure, - demonstrate a basic understanding of physical and chemical effects on products, - display a reflective approach to surface and structure, - express himself or herself in shape, colour and artistic interpretation through an experimenting working method, - display skills in working with and developing product ideas for different techniques and materials, - visualise and communicate shape ideas, - demonstrate knowledge of work with decor, patterns, colouring and surface treatment, - demonstrate a scientific approach to the process and products of handicraft.
Content
The course includes creative work with practical, experimental specialisation and problem discussions of the conditions and processes of the creative process. Creative experimental work with an emphasis on the different expressions that surface and structure in different materials and techniques give is essential course contents. The student works with craft and handicraft techniques, particularly those where techniques, instruments and tools contribute to creating surface and structure in the materials. In the creative work, technical expertise is united with a personal expression and product development. Shape and colour experiences as well as composition and pattern exercises, where texture, decor, pattern and relief effects in different materials are covered. The course includes exercises and assignments that give the students opportunity to reflect on how the own knowledge can be translated into future products. The object analysis covers crafts aspects and artistic aspects.
